The Give Back Yoga Foundation approved a project to provide yoga and
yoga nidra classes twice a week to a population of more than 800
service members and their families while in treatment at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. The holistic,
multi-disciplinary program will offer yoga classes to amputees, people
undergoing as many as 40 surgeries for war wounds, and those with
mental illnesses as a result of combat. For five years, yoga and
meditation instructor Robin Carnes, the project's grantee, has been
working with military service members returning from Iraq and
Afghanistan with combat-related illnesses including traumatic brain
injury and severe post-traumatic stress disorder. Give Back Yoga is
partnering with YOGAaccesories.com, and other suppliers to provide the
props and materials needed to introduce these service members to the
power of yoga and iRest (Integrative Restoration), a guided meditation
practice. We are grateful for the continued support and generosity of
spirit from YOGAaccesories!
The Give Back Yoga Foundation is a non-profit organization under
Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our mission is to
support and fund certified yoga teachers in all traditions to offer
the teachings of yoga to underserved and under-resourced populations.
Its work targets individuals who might not otherwise have the
opportunity to experience yoga's transformational benefits in various
forms, including asana, breath work and meditation.
