Eating Healthy During Winter Carb Months
|
 |
With sub-zero temps in many parts of the country, people everywhere are loading up on carbohydrates – in colder temperatures, our bodies turn to carbs to fill us up and keep us warm. The light fluffy salads of summer aren’t even an afterthought! Here are some quick tips to make your carb-eating healthier this winter:
- Add tons of veggies and lean proteins into your pasta dishes.
- Try out quinoa – this grain is loaded with protein, which is great for boosting your energy.
- If you’re a bread eater, eat it WITH your meals instead of beforehand. Many restaurants serve bread baskets before your meal, but if you arrive to the table starving, you’ll probably eat more than your healthy share of bread! Instead, eat a little something before going out to eat and try to eat your bread with your meal instead of stocking up before your entrée.
- Eat more potatoes, broccoli, and hearty vegetables to help offset some carb-craving. Your body uses these healthy carbs much more effectively than processed breads and pastas, so stock up!
