How to Integrate a Yoga Strap Into Your Practice
|
 |
A strap is a great prop to help you go deeper into yoga poses and even help you in some poses that may seem impossible right now. Here are a few ways that the strap will help you gain flexibility in a safe way:
- While lying on the floor on your back, reach one foot up towards the ceiling. Place the strap around the bottom of your foot, and hold onto the strap with both hands. Gently straighten the knee and pull the leg closer to you, stretching the hamstring. Repeat both sides.
-
You can keep the strap in this position, and bring the leg out to the side of your body to stretch the inner thighs and groin.
-
While standing or sitting, you can move in to gomukhasana (cow face pose) and use the strap if your hands are unable to touch yet.
- In any position where your hands are clasped behind you, you may instead hold onto the strap to open up your shoulders more deeply.
