How to Be Serious But Not Rigid in Yoga Class
|
|
Many of us take yoga very seriously and work very hard to focus on what we’re doing and stay present. However, sometimes this seriousness may cause our bodies to be a bit more rigid than they should be. Here are a few tips on how to be serious, but not rigid, in yoga:
- Pay attention to your mouth: Is your jaw tight? Are you biting your teeth together? Remember to relax your face and allow there to be space between your upper and lower teeth. Allow your jaw to be soft.
-
Look down at your toes. Are you gripping with your toes? If your toes are curling, you are gripping too hard. Remember to gently place your toes down on your mat, standing firm, but relaxed.
- Pay attention to your shoulders as well. Notice if they creep up towards your ears; try to be mindful of keeping your shoulder blades pulled down your back, and your shoulders away from your ears, even when your arms are raised up.
