3 Steps to De-Stress in Any Situation

The next time you’re finding yourself challenged — whether at work, at your mother-in-law’s, or even at home with the kids, take five minutes to yourself to press your mental and emotional re-set button.

1. First, find a quiet, uninterrupted space (even if you have to go to the bathroom to find it), and close your eyes. (Did you know 95% of the external distractions are eliminated just by closing your eyes?). Then give yourself 3 - 5 minutes just to breathe . . . to deeply breathe.

2. As you breathe, allow your mind to settle; creating some space between your thoughts. Intentionally release any thoughts that were causing you stress, and clear the inner screen of your mind. Combining this clearing exercise with 3-5 minutes of deep breathing will help re-set your mental and emotional state.

3. And finally, open your heart by interlacing your fingers behind your back (with your palms facing toward each other) and stretch you arms back as you broaden across your chest, feeling an opening in your chest and shoulders. Do this for 3-5 breaths, then relax your arms.

Then, notice how you feel. In less than 5 minutes, you’ll be more centered, more balanced, and more peaceful.
