It’s two thirty. The house is a wreck. Dinner is not even a twinkle in my eye. Kids will be home soon, and I haven’t even said hello to my sunny orange Cosmic Yoga Mat today.
So I roll her out...all 74” of her vibrant, Mandala-inspired golden glory. I come to child’s pose toward the back of the intricately-printed mat, not feeling focused enough, just yet, to approach the top of the mat.
I spread my fingers wide, turn toes under, and with a smooth exhale, lengthen my spine into a reverent downward dog. Ten breaths here.
My drishti starts to come into focus on the mat. Literally...on the mat!
I began to connect with something -- someone -- I had never previously thought about. The artist. Yes, the artist who painstakingly drew the lines and dots and forms and filigree on this mat. The one who chose these particular hues of orange and yellow and white. The beauty of her work takes me beyond the mat, beyond self-study, and to a stranger’s soul far away. I wish she knew how much I love this mat.
I am back in child’s pose, in quiet reverence. Asana practice is not right for me today. But the drishti is spot on.
The Cosmic Yoga mat was created by California artist Belinda Sky. Belinda is an avid yogini who has combined her passion for artistic design with her near 20 year commitment to practicing yoga--one which has given her life meaning, and had provided inspiration for her art. This mat was designed exclusively for YOGAaccessories.com.
