Yoga bolsters are dense pillows of varying sizes used to support various parts of the body in different asanas. Maximize the benefits of shavasana (corpse pose) -- a meditative and restorative asana commonly practiced at the end of a yoga routine -- by placing a bolster under the knees. Stick a bolster under the lower back for a supportive back bend, or lengthwise along the mid to upper back, neck and head to open the heart chakra. Yoga bolsters, like other yoga props, help take the strain off your body as you ease from pose to pose.
Yoga Pillows come in all shapes and sizes. To give you a quick rundown of all of our bolster sizes we've developed a quick comparison chart:
28 x 10 inches
x 6 x 12 inches
x 5 x 8
Supportive Round Bolster
22 x 7 inches
x 3 x 6 inches
28 x 10 inches
Rectangular Bolster: The OverStuffed Pillow
x 6" x 12" + 3" at the widest point
Max Support Round Bolster: The OverStuffed Pillow
28" x 10" + 2.5" at the widest point
Pillows suite a variety of needs. They can take the place of blocks for a softer form of support or to prop up feet during savasana to encourage a feeling of floating. We greatly recommend the Pranayama bolster during pranayamic breathing exercises to fully open the chest. These the yoga pillows become your best friend in Restorative yoga. They greatly encourage inward reflection, comfort, and ease during many poses. We especially love round bolsters during child's pose as a way to accentuate the curve of the practitioner's back and to fully engage the pose.
Using a round bolster in a supported back bend allows the user to open the front of their bodies and stretch the organs, belly, ribs, and heart. Allow your body to realign after a long day at the office with simple, rejuventating stretches that create the most positive impact on your body.
